Our family has grown Alphonso on the red laterite cliffs of Devgad, Sindhudurg, for three generations. The sea air, the iron-rich soil and the long Konkan summer give the Devgad Hapus its saffron flesh and honey-and-pine sweetness — a taste protected by GI certification, so the name can only come from here.
